TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma City Warriors, proud members of the NA3HL, fell 6-5 in a shootout to the Tulsa Oilers on Sunday, as the weekend set shifted to Tulsa.
It was a different start for the Warriors, outshooting Tulsa 15-11 in the first. London McDougall added his third tally of the season just 57 seconds into the game, making it 1-0, set up by Hunter Yates for the lone goal of the opening period.
Jesse Mismash opened up the second period, scoring his second goal of the season in just as many games, set up by London McDougall, making it 2-0 with 15:59 remaining in the second. Rodion Dubrovin added a power-play tally off an assist from Montana Medina at 9:09, rounding out the second period 2-1. Oklahoma City outshot Tulsa 11-9.
The third period is where the floodgates opened up for goal scoring, as John Scown logged an unassisted power-play goal for Tulsa, evening the score 2-2 with 18:49 remaining in the period. Immediately after, William Saunders netted the first of his junior career, assisted by John Scown, putting Tulsa ahead 3-2 with 17:34 remaining. Less than a minute later, Luke Yahola’s third goal of the season, off of a dish from Chase Boswell, extended Tulsa’s lead to 4-2 at the 16:45 mark. John Scown would add his second unassisted tally of the period shorthanded at 13:05, making it 5-2 Oilers. Elijah Gilbertson sparked the Warriors’ comeback at 11:26, for his first goal of the season, with Braxton Doherty grabbing the helper to make it 5-3. King McDougall logged an unassisted tally at 9:59, making it 5-4 bringing the game back within one. Carter Kelley would find the game-tying goal against his former team at 2:06, set up by Jesse Mismash, sending the game to overtime tied 5-5.
Neither team would find the back of the net in overtime, but Tulsa’s Chase Boswell had the only answer in the skills contest, securing the 6-5 final score.
Sean Biebrich stopped 37-of-42 shots faced in the Oklahoma City effort, and Derek Hetland stopped 39-of-44 in Tulsa’s second-consecutive win.
