OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oklahoma City Warriors, proud members of the NA3HL, defeated the Tulsa Oilers 3-1 on Friday night, for the first of 11 meetings on the season, which is the most of any head-to-head matchups on the Warriors’ schedule this season.
Friday night’s contest saw a scoreless first period, with shots on goal even at 11-11. Both teams remained successful on the penalty kill.
In the second period, the Warriors took control, despite Tulsa outshooting 11-6. Braxton Doherty logged his first goal of the season at the 18:34 mark, set up by Elijah Gilbertson and Keeghan Middleton to make it 1-0. London McDougall added his second tally of the season at 8:02, to make it 2-0 rounding out the scoring in the middle frame. Oklahoma City’s shorthanded unit came up big, killing off three separate Oilers’ power-play opportunities.
Oklahoma City came out strong in the third, outshooting Tulsa 15-5 in the period. Raul Galadzhian eventually put Tulsa on the board at the 12:08 mark of the final frame, making it 2-1 off of assists from Rodion Dubrovin and John Scown. Braxton Doherty logged his second of the season with 1:03 remaining in regulation, securing the 3-1 final.
Tyler Miller stood tall in goal, stopping 26-of-27 shots faced, earning the inaugural win. Derek Hetland stopped 30-of-32 shots faced in the Oilers’ effort. Oklahoma City went 5-for-5 overall on the penalty kill, and Tulsa went 2-for-2.
